Srinagar, Mar 1 (GNS): The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference General Secretary Ali Muhammad Sagar today met with scores of workers delegations who had called on him here at Party Head Quarters Nawa-e-Sabah, Srinagar.

The visiting delegations which called on the General Secretary had come from different segments of district Srinagar acquainted the Party General Secretary about the ongoing political scenario in the district . On the occasion Party’s District President Srinagar Peer Afaq Ahmed, Provincial Secretary Showkat Ahmed Mir, YNC President Salman Ali Sagar, Ahsan Pardesi and other block functionaries were present. The visiting delegations discussed a range of issues concerning the people and the party with the Party leadership. They also apprised the leaders about the plethora of issues the people in their respective areas are facing on account of the administration’s failure to cope up with the snowfall aftermath.

Interacting with the delegations, Sagar said that the government has been shouting that everything was hunky dory in Jammu and Kashmir but the ground situation was contrary to the high pitched bravado created by the ruling dispensation. “In a bid to secure political hold over the region the GOI has lost sight of issues suffered by the people in the form of governance deficit, administrative inertia and sky-scraping rate of unemployment. The picture on the front of security is even worse. The steep increase in the deaths of security personnel, targeted killings of civilians and recurring encounters explain it all. There is no semblance of peace, good governance in this part of the world. The region has been relegated into the hands of related bureaucracy, which has no idea about the local issues. The defining feature of the government is the soaring household income, increasing employment, and administrative inertia. The widespread policy myopia of the government towards J&K has increased the suffering of people. On the political front, the people across J&K are feeling less of a citizen than other parts of the country on account of curtailment of their constitutionally guaranteed rights,” he said.

Remarking on the repressive, lopsided and heavy taxation being levied on people, Sagar said, “The insensitiveness of the government can be ascertained by the way people are being overburdened with taxes ranging from toll taxes, property taxes, to houses taxes. The new taxation regime is hurting our marginalized farmers, salaried class and other weaker sections of the society. When it comes to giving the money back to people the government turns blank. Work on all the major road, sewage, drainage, health and education projects has been put into a cold storage. The plight of agriculture and its allied sectors is equally depressing,” he said.

Sagar , while urging the workers to increase their public contact said that people were the real source of power and party members should live up to their obligations by serving the people in their respective areas. He impressed upon the visiting delegations to increase their public contact, saying that there was no scope for contentment. “The road ahead of us is very challenging. We are not fighting for power. Our aim is to restore the dignity of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. The route we have chosen to achieve our rights is peaceful, democratic and constitutional,” he said. (GNS)
