Srinagar, Feb 11 (GNS):  The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Party President, Member of Parliament from Srinagar Dr Farooq Abdullah and Vice President Mr. Omar Abdullah on Thursday greeted people on the annual Urs observances of Hazrat Noor Shah Baghdadi (RA), and Hazrat Zati Shah Wali (RA) of Kund, Qazigund and Drugmulla, Kupwara respectively.

In his message, the Party President said that Kashmir being an alcove of Sufis and saints has been bestowed with spiritual wealth. He said the shrines associated with Sufis have traditionally been held in reverence by people in Kashmir cutting across religious lines. “Hazrat Baghdadi (RA) and Hazrat Zati Shah Sahib (RA) were amongst the galaxy of Sufis and saints whose contribution towards the social and cultural life of Kashmir is immense.  These sainsts have shaped the contours of our social, cultural and spiritual life by preaching the message of piety, self conscience and penance. These great men indoctrinated the people with the core values of Islam, the Quranic teachings and various other facets of Islamic learning including Hadith and Sunnah.  Kashmir bears deep imprints of the teachings of such great saints, and Sufis who out of their personal example revolutionized the society by purging it from various evils. Kashmiris are and will continue to remain indebted to such great Sufis as Hazrat Baghdadi (RA) and Hazrat Zati Shah (RA). On the urs observances, I extend my greeting to the people of Kashmir in general and the people of Kupwara, and Qazigund, Kulgam in particular with a view that they will imbue themselves with the teachings of such great men. The new generation has a lot to gain from the life and teachings of such great Sufis. I pray that the day augurs well for the peace and prosperity in Kashmir,” he said.

Party Vice President in his greetings said, “Sufism has long been associated with Kashmir.  The cultural life of Kashmiris is soaked with the teachings of such great men. The message of such Sufis as Hazrat Baghdadi (RA) and Hazrat Zati Shah (RA) was that of peace, piety and penance. Their message stressed on the unity of humankind; these great men embodied the substance of Islamic values and teachings.  I take this opportunity and greet people on the auspicious Urs observances of the two revered Sufis. I hope that those who get to visit the shrines on the auspicious eve are bestowed with spiritual bliss and contentment,” he said.
