Says Signs of Improvement Visible In J&K, HP, 3 Other States/UT
Srinagar, Feb 09 (GNS): The impact of Covid -19 on the travel industry has been devastating but signs of improvement are visible in the domestic tourism segment in Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Goa and Andaman & Nicobar etc, the government said on Tuesday.
Responding to a written question by a parliamentarian B. Lingaiah Yadav, MoS tourism Prahlad Singh Patel said that the vaccination process has also created a positive perception about traveling and the numbers are expected to help the industry attain revival and recovery.
“Since the situation is still evolving, the achievement of pre-pandemic business level will be ascertained in due course,” he said.
The junior minister also responded in affirmative to question whether there is need for greater collaboration between the industry and Government to bring the travel industry back on track.
“The Ministry and its regional offices located in Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai and Guwahati are regularly communicating with the travel industry and other stakeholders on issues related to opening up of tourism sector, handling of tourists, protocols of safety and security, service standards etc,”
The minister however responded in negative to another question if the government proposes to consider subsidising consumer holidays on the lines as seen in other countries like Thailand, Japan and Italy.
“At present there is no proposal to subsidize consumer holidays,” he added. (GNS)
