Srinagar, Oct 16 (GNS): Police on Friday claimed to have busted an LeT module by arresting six persons who assisted Lashker-e-Toiba commander Saifullah to carry out some fatal accepts on police and paramilitary forces before he was killed in a gunfight here earlier this month.

“Police did not stop at killing Saifullah and other militant involved in the series of attacks from  August 14 till October 5 within the jurisdiction of Police Station Nowgam and Chadoora but carried forwarded investigations,” Inspector General of Police Vijay Kumar said. He said six associates of the LeT commander and others were arrested besides three vehicles and as many motor bikes have been seized.

He said on August 14, militants attacked the Police and SSB party at Gulshan Nagar Nowgam in which two personnel of “A” Coy of IRP 20th Bn were killed and one injured. One INSAS rifle was also snatched by the militants, the top police officer of Kashmir said

On September 21, he said, militants attacked the ROP party of 110 batallion CRPF on New Bypass but there was no injury in the incident.

On September 25, he said, militants attacked the CRPF party of 117 battalion at Kaisarmullah Chadoora in which one CRPF personnel was killed and his weapon was also snatched.  

On October 5, the IGP said, militants attacked the ROP party of CRPF’s 110 battalion near Taingan New Bypass in which two personnel were killed and 4 others were injured.  

“In order to solve the attacks, different teams were constituted by West Zone, Police Srinagar. Around 9-10 suspects were identified and subsequently picked up for questioning,” he said, adding, “The teams were able to identify the links through human intelligence and a series of raids were launched in Chadoora Budgam, Nowgam and other areas of Srinagar.”

 These suspects were subjected to sustained questioning and during which they confessed about their involvement, he said. “Location of the house was obtained through human intelligence, where the (militants) involved in these attacks were hiding at Barzulla.”

He said that arrested persons provided shelter, transportation and also conducted recce of the security forces deployments where the attacks were carried out by the militants.

The arrested have been identified as Waseem Ahmad Ganaie, Suhail Shabir Ganaie alias Imran 

Both residents of Ganaie Mohallah Chattergam Chadoora Budgam, Faisal Mushtaq Ganie, Sahil Nisar, both residents  of Aribagh Nowgam Srinagar, Shakir Ahmad Dar of Marvel Kakapora Pulwama and Umar Nisar of Iqbal Colony Wanbal Shankerpora Nowgam

“Six vehicles were also seized by Police which were used for recce, transportation of militants and for carrying out these attacks including  Tavera (JK01N-4348),  Bike Pulsar (JK04D-8329), Bike Yamaha (R15, JK01S-6774), Alto White Colour (JK04B-7730), Alto 800 (JK13E-8162) and Bike (JK04E-5369).
