SRINAGAR, OCTOBER 03: The Legal Metrology Department (LMD) today slapped a fine of Rs. 5000 on the firm for offering for sale the pre-packaged biscuits without the declaration of MRP/ Date of Manufacture and other relevant details.
Prompted by public complaints that a Bakery-shop in Srinagar city is offering for sale the pre-packaged biscuits without relevant details, the field executives of LMD conducted surprise inspection of the bakery-shop and found the complaint genuine.
A case was registered against the Manager of the shop under Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011 and a fine was also slapped on the firm for the lapse.
The Director Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Kashmir has recently issued a fresh rate-list of Bakery and Confectionery food items wherein rates of some bakery items have been revised.
The traders dealing in bakery items have been directed to display the rate-list on their premises and explicitly carry the declaration on the counters to differentiate the two types of cakes (plain ghee-cake and Butter ghee-cake).
