Kupwara, Sep 18: (GNS) J&K Youth Public Welfare Forum living up to its tagline ‘Ray of Hope’ is becoming a reason for many poverty-stricken households to cheer-up their faces by providing required assistance to solemnise weddings of their daughters in this north-Kashmir’s frontier district.
A top-member of the management said that the NGO was setup in the year 2017 with an aim to facilitate weddings of poor and needy girls in the area.
“We took the initiative with limited means and resources available with us, however, with the grace of Almighty Allah we have so far solemnised at least eight marriages”, the member said adding “Arrangements are in full swing to conduct around ten other weddings in the next month only.”
The recent weddings, as per the member, were of two sisters solemnised by the NGO at Kalaroos area of the district.
When enquired over the financial assistance to the NGO itself, the member said that they have ‘a group of dedicated contributors’ who, as per him, have been ‘relentlessly contributing towards this noble cause.’
Remarking that there are thousands of girls awaiting for help to get married off, the member said that, “A little help from well-off families can make a major impact and can go a long way to help such households and more to say to such girls.”
“We were startled to know that the first four marriages we somehow solemnised had been waiting for marriages’ despite their Nikkah ceremony conducted four years before”, he said.
Emphasising the people, especially youth to come forward for the noble cause, the member said that, “We should strive to create each volunteer group in each village to look after such cases”, adding “If such a thing happens, it will help many downtrodden families in the society and will ultimately ease out the burden on other major organisations working for this noble cause.”(GNS)
