Uri, August 26:(GNS) Students studying at different semesters in Government Degree College (GDC) in north Kashmir’s Uri town on Wednesday demanded that their upcoming examinations should be conducted online instead of offline mode.

A group of students told GNS that it is not possible for them to go for offline examination which has been scheduled by college from 31st August till 10th September 2020.

“It is risky for us to appear in offline examination these days because no one is aware who comes from where. There is a threat of spreading the virus, ” said a student.

“I live in remote village of tehsil Boniyar which is 30 KM away from Uri town and it is not possible for me to appear in offline examination as there is the shortage of transport,” he said.

Another student said, “If all the colleges in valley are conducting online examinations then why only this college is forcing the students for offline mode”.

Recently, Principal of the college issued two separate notifications which reads, “

BG 2nd semester (batch 2019) regular/ fresh private and backlog candidates of (batch 2016, 2017 & 2018) and BG 4th semester(batch 2018( regular/ fresh private and backlog candidates of (batch 2014 & 2017)

are hereby informed that their semester examination in theory is going to be conducted from 1st September to 10th September on offline mode”.

Another notification reads, “BG 3rd semester (batch 2018) regular/ fresh private) and backlog candidates of (batch 2016 & 2017) whose paper of physics & skill enhancement course was postponed due to lockdown will appear in the missing paper from 31st August 2020 onwards”.

Syed Tanveer Andrabi, Principal GDC Uri said, “Many students don’t have the internet facility available forcing us to conduct their exams offline”

He added, “The students will be called in groups and proper SOPs will be followed by all”.(GNS)
