Srinagar, Aug 25 (GNS): Jammu and Kashmir National Conference on Tuesday expressed concern over the scarcity of drinking water and dilapidated condition of roads in different areas in district Srinagar saying the apathetic attitude of the administration is causing undue distress to the populace living in such areas.

Party’s women’s wing president and former MLA Habba Kadal Shameema Firdous while drawing attention of administration to the scarcity of drinking water in Dal Hassanyar, Tankipura, Zaindar Mohalla, Shalalethar, Ganpatyar, Chinkral Mohalla, Zaldagar, Habbakadal localities of Srinagar said the localities have been facing severe scarcity of potable drinking water for many days now and that people there are going through immense trepidation. “It goes without saying how severe the heat wave is at present. The entire valley is reeling under a hot wave. One can well gauge the plight of people without potable drinking water during present times. In addition to it the holy month of Muharram has just set in, administration is therefore additionally obliged to ensure all basic civic amenities to people in a hassle free manner. It is appalling to see mothers and sisters queue for fetching water at community taps, which also are running dry at present. The residents of the said localities have been enduring this situation until now but in no way can they cope up with the summer heat any further due to the dearth of drinking water.  I therefore urge the administration to restore drinking water to the said localities without any delay. In case any necessary repairs are required to be undertaken in any locality, the locals should be informed  earlier and necessary arrangement of water should be put in place until then,” she said.

Meanwhile Central Secretary and former MLA Batamaloo Irfan Ahmed Shah also expressed concern over the non availability of drinking water and dilapidated condition of roads and arterials in Qamarwari, Bemina, and Batamaloo localities of Srinagar. “Almost all areas in Batamaloo constituency are facing severe water crisis while the government continues to remain unmoved,” Irfan said adding the localities have been receiving step motherly treatment at the hands of various regimes since 2015.

He further added, “No substantial augmentation of road infrastructure has taken place in these localities regardless of being a hub of commercial activities. The blacktopping of the main roads as well as the inner arterials in the said areas has crumbled leading to potholes which even during slightest downpour turn into cesspools.  The dilapidated condition of the roads in said areas is creating frequent logjams as well putting commuters to undue duress and suffering. On account of the problems the residents of the said areas are facing, I urge the concerned authorities to refurbish the road infrastructure in the Batamaloo, Qamarwari, Bypass and other localities.” (GNS)
