Srinagar, Aug 25 (GNS): Jammu and Kashmir High Court has directed Airport Authority of India to file a status report regarding the upgradation of the Srinagar Airport.
Hearing a Public Interest Litigation, a division bench of Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice Puneet Gupta asked the AAI counsel advocate Anil Bhan to “ascertain the position with regard to the upgradation of the Srinagar Airport and file a latest status report before the next date of hearing (on October 12).”
The court also directed B. A. Dar, Sr. AAG, and. T. M. Shamsi, ASGI, to file a latest status report within four weeks.
The bench, according to GNS, was hearing a Public Interest Litigation that it has initiated on its own motion, seeking to provide necessary facilities to passengers travelling to and from Kashmir by air.
In one of the previous hearing, the High Court had ordered a disability access audit of the three airports in the J&K.
“There has been one more aspect which has been overlooked in this Public Interest Litigation which relates to the disability access audit of the airports in the State of Jammu and Kashmir. Basic facilities as ambu lifts, tactile markings, toilets for those with special needs are not available,” a division bench of had said.
“We direct the Airport Directors, Srinagar, Jammu as well as Leh and the Airport Authority of India to coordinate with “M/s Nipman Foundation” (who is assisting the issues relating to disability in another PIL) and cause a disability access audit of the three airports to be undertaken,” the court had said.
