Uri, July 31:(GNS) The Uri administration has asked the irrigation & flood control department in Uri to explain that how come was illegal extraction of sand possible here leading to contaminated water supply to inhabitants.
“Explain that how unauthorized extraction has taken place. No extraction of sand shall be allowed from any water source scheme polluted water supply, ” said SDM Uri Reyaz Ahmad Malik.
The move comes days after GNS highlighted the issue pertaining to the illegal sand extraction from a local nallah by a contractor which has causing supply of polluted water to Uri residents.
The SDM on Friday along with PHE, PMGSY, I&FC and revenue officials visited village Nambla, Uri and took a stock of water supply scheme.
A official told GNS that SDM inspected the head source of water scheme at Richawali Nambla here.
During his inspection, the team found Richawali Nalla Nambla supplying contaminated water due to to fresh extraction of Nallah bed material by a contractor.
The land to set up a filtration plant was also identified and revenue officials were directed to begin the acquisition process, he added. (GNS)
