Jammu, May 2 (GNS): In separate incidents, two boys drowned while taking bath in rivers in Poonch and Reasi districts of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday.
Reports reaching GNS said that Abdul Qayoom Mir, 21, son of Mir Mohammad, resident of Barla Gota, Tehsil Chassana drowned while taking bath in a river today afternoon.
Soon after the news spread, hundreds of locals assembled at the spot while the teams of police and local administration immediately started an operation to retrieve the body of the deceased, they said.
A police officer said the youth’s body was retrieved from the river after hectic efforts.
Similarly, Umer Farooq, 17, son of Late Mohammad Farooq of Khanter drowned in Surankote River while taking a bath.
Soon after the incident, a police team led by DSP Headquarter and SHO Poonch along with SDRF team reached the spot and launched searches to retrieve the body. However, eyewitnesses told GNS that the body was washed away in the river.
The body was not retrieved when this report was being filed. (GNS)
