Kupwara, Mar 28 (GNS): Authorities seized “sub-standard” rice from a Food Corporation of India (FCI) depot in Bumhama area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Saturday.
As per reports reaching GNS, during a surprise visit, a joint team of Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Department (CA&PD) headed by Additional Director Food (AD) Mudasir Ahmad Wani, Tehsildar Kupwara Javeed Ahmad Zargar and officials from police seized a truck carrying “sub-standard” rice at (FCI) godown in Bumhama.
Acting upon the complaint, we carried out an inspection and seized the truck, AD Food Mudasir Wani told GNS. He said the matter has been brought into the notice of Deputy Commissioner Kupwara for further investigation.
When contacted, Deputy Commissioner Kupwara Anshul Garg said that 282 quintals of rice were found to be of “poor quality” at the Bumhama godown.
“An inquiry has been initiated in this regard,” DC said adding that the samples have also been taken from the said ration quota and have been forwarded for testing.
Pertinently, the government has directed the Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA) to provide two month ration in advance to the consumers in the Valley amid spiking cases of coronavirus. (GNS)
